THE man with the fastest hundred in Big Bash League history is set to join the influx of marquee recruits for the inaugural Superslam.

Former Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers opener Craig Simmons, who smashed a BBL-record 39-ball century in 2014, will feature for St Kilda in the Twenty20 tournament.

“I have had a chat to one of the guys who played over here, (St Kilda captain) Michael Beer, and he asked if I was keen,” Simmons said.

“I might head over there for a couple of weeks I think.

“I think Nic Maddinson is playing there as well, so if he’s there I think it would be good fun possibly opening up with him and score some runs up the top of the order.”

The hard-hitting left-hander attracted national headlines when he was plucked from grade cricket to open for the Scorchers and averaged 25.3 in 29 Twenty20 matches.

Simmons is captain of Western Australia side Rockingham Mandurah and has made consecutive half-centuries in his past two matches.

“I am about 15 years older than the next youngest bloke in the team, but it keeps me young,” he told the BBL Free Hit podcast.

“I possibly might be heading to Melbourne for a couple of T20 games for one of the clubs as well this year. It should be good fun.”

The 35-year-old made his first-class debut for WA in 2003.

The Superslam will split Premier Cricket’s 18 clubs into two conferences, with the Saints to face Greenvale Kangaroos, Melbourne, Prahran, Essendon, Geelong, Footscray, Melbourne University and Carlton.

Final squads are yet to be released, however Greenvale Kangaroos have announced the signings of Melbourne Renegades batsman Beau Webster and ex-Victorian quick Ryan Sidebottom.

Two-time BBL leading run scorer Ben Dunk will feature for Camberwell Magpies, while ex-Sri Lankan spinner Suraj Randiv (Dandenong) and former Test seamer Nuwan Kulasekara (Casey-South Melbourne) have also been locked in.

The Super Slam is due to start in three weeks and the champion will progress to a national T20 carnival to be held in Adelaide in March.
