Police are warning motorists to be careful after a ute driver was lucky to escape a horror smash in Mornington on June 20. The Langwarrin HSV Maloo driver, aged in his 30s, had just overtaken a mate when his ute ran off the road, rolled and smashed into a tree about 7.30pm. He tested negative to drugs and alcohol but will most likely be charged with speeding and dangerous driving. “The roads are wet and driving conditions poor,” a police spokesperson said. “Please slow down, drive according to the conditions and within the speed limit.”
CRIB POINT
A pair of plant thieves have been caught green handed knocking off plants from a Crib Point early learning centre. Mornington Peninsula police thanked the public for their help in identifying two offenders who were captured on CCTV stealing plants from the centre on May 11. The offenders were charged and released to face Frankston Magistrate Court in December.
FLINDERS
A man has died after a two-car crash in Flinders on June 26. A police spokeswoman said the vehicles were believed to have collided on Boneo Rd near Mornington-Flinders Rd just before 4.30pm. She said the male driver of one car — who was the only occupant — died at the scene. A man and woman in the other car were treated for minor injuries, she said. Police are investigating the exact cause of the collision.

A man who allegedly stabbed a Eumemmerring taxi driver in broad daylight on Friday, June 21 is wanted by police. Police say the taxi picked up a male passenger, believed to be in his early 20s, from Greens Rd in Dandenong South about 1.40pm. When the driver arrived at the destination in Carrum Downs around 2pm, the passenger pulled out a knife and demanded cash. There was a short scuffle between the two and the driver was stabbed several times in the arm. The attacker fled the scene empty-handed after the botched robbery. Police seized what they believe to be the hoodie and pants of the alleged offender, and also released images of a man they wish to question. The man was last seen running towards Shearwater Drive shortly after the incident wearing a grey hooded jumper. He was unshaven with a slim build and is thought to have been caucasian in appearance.
FRANKSTON
An Eildon man has faced with court after he was charged with one count of manslaughter following the death of a Frankston man in Eildon in 2017. The 19-year-old man was arrested by Homicide Squad detectives in Eildon on June 21. The charges follow an investigation into a physical altercation outside a licensed premise on Goulburn Valley Highway just before midnight on October 20, 2017 which led to the death of the 51-year-old Frankston man. The man faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court, where he was bailed to reappear on September 24.
FRANKSTON
Two women who are alleged to have stolen a handbag and a car from the Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre on June 16 are wanted by police. Investigators have been told the handbag was stolen from the women’s change room about 9.50am. CCTV captured the female suspects hopping into a silver Honda sedan which was driven by an accomplice. The offenders drove around the car park until they located the victim’s light blue 2012 Volkswagen sedan (ZDD 273). The alleged crooks used a key taken from the handbag to steal the VW sedan, which has not been located. Police located the Honda, believed to be stolen, in Melton on June 18.
The Honda contained some of the victim’s personal items.

MORDIALLOC
A man allegedly caught by police trying to steal towing cables because a car he had stolen was stuck in mud in Mordialloc has faced court. The alleged offender was pinched overnight on June 19. It’s understood he was attempting to steal the cables so he could free the stolen vehicle. The Bonbeach man faced court charged with several theft and driving offences.

A Waterways woman who recorded a 0.175 alcohol reading in Chelsea on June 19 has had her car impounded. Police spotted the woman’s car travelling without headlights about 9.30pm. The woman registered the high reading after she was intercepted by police. Her licence was immediately suspended and her vehicle impounded. She will face court at a later date.
BRIGHTON
A drink driver nabbed speeding through a 40km/h speed zone in Brighton on June 20 has lost his licence for six months. Moorabbin Highway Patrol detected the car travelling at 62km/h through the New St school zone just after 8.40am. The driver was taken to Moorabbin police station where he returned an alcohol reading of 0.083. He was issued with two fines for drink driving and speeding.
PATTERSON LAKES
A man has been charged after police allegedly found drugs, weapons and a large amount of cash at a Patterson Lakes property on Friday, June 21. The 25-year-old Patterson Lakes man was spoken to by police after he was found in a parked car in Bonbeach with a large amount of cannabis at 9.30pm. Detectives searched the man’s Solway Court home where they allegedly found cannabis, amphetamine, an imitation handgun, ammunition, throwing knives and a large amount of cash. The man was charged with traffick and possess a drug of dependence, firearm offences and possess proceeds of crime. He was remanded in custody.

CRANBOURNE
A man who failed to steal a chainsaw from Cranbourne Bunnings is on the run from police. It’s alleged the man entered the store on June 4 and placed a $700 chainsaw in a cardboard box. His plan came unstuck at the door when a staff asked to look inside the box. The suspect became instantly aggressive a shoved the staff member. He then dropped the chainsaw and ran away.

Police are hoping to find the rightful owners of a collection of valuables seized during a search warrant in Casey. The items include rare stamps and currency which police believe were stolen. “If you know any avid collectors of stamps or currency please let them know about this post and hopefully we can update you with some good news in the coming days,” a police spokesperson said.
BOTANIC RIDGE
A 21-year-old Botanic Ridge man will face the County Court in August after he was charged with culpable driving causing death following the death of policeman in Orbost last year. The man was in a car going along the Princes Highway at Cabbage Tree Creek when it allegedly veered onto the opposite side of the road about 2.20pm on September 14. The car struck a motorbike. The rider, Victoria Police detective Senior Sergeant Vic Kostiuk who was taking part in the Wall to Wall ride for Remembrance, died at the scene. A 17-year-old NSW boy was also charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, and six counts of reckless conduct endangering life. He was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Cranbourne on June 10. Investigators are after dashcam footage of the accident which occurred at the intersection of Narre Warren-Cranbourne Rd and Kingdom Drive about 9.30pm. A tradesman’s expensive drill was stolen from a Dandenong food court on July 21. A police spokesperson said the tradie sat down for some food after working all day in the court, taking his eyes away from his tools for “less than a few minutes” about 4pm. The spokesperson said when the tradie turned around his $700 DeWalt drill had been stolen. Police have since reviewed CCTV footage and wish to speak to a man or woman (pictured below) in relation to the incident.
BANGHOLME
Police are investigating after a Holden Commodore VF SS sedan was found burnt out in Bangholme on June 22. Police discovered the car near the corner of River End Rd and McMahens Rd about 1.40am. An empty petrol can was discovered on the front passengers seat. The car, believed to be stolen, sustained extensive damage. Investigators are calling for witnesses who may have seen the car on McMahens Rd prior.
SPRINGVALE
A woman who walked behind the counter of a Springvale Subway restaurant to make herself a sandwich on May 28 is wanted by police. It’s understood the woman told staff she was the new trainee. While the staff member was clarifying this with a supervisor the hungry woman made her way behind the counter. She started making a sandwich before staff challenged her and she ran away with the bread roll and some cookies.
