Hollywood action man Liam Neeson is returning to Melbourne for his latest film thriller.

Neeson, known for Love Actually, Taken, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight Rises, Clash of the Titans, Gangs of New York, Schindler’s List and Excalibur, will film his new movie The Mongoose, in Melbourne and regional Victoria from late January.

It is the third movie Neeson has made in Victoria in four years.

The production will create 453 jobs for Victorian screen workers and inject more than $19 million into the state economy.

The project will be based in Footscray’s Melbourne Screen Hub, a warehouse and co-working space in the inner west for local screen businesses.

In The Mongoose, Neeson plays Ryan ‘Fang’ Flanagan, a war hero who is accused of a crime he didn’t commit.

With nothing to lose he leads police on a massive televised cross-country police chase.

Neeson previously filmed the conspiracy thriller Blacklight in 2020 and Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky in 2024 in Victoria.

Ice Road 2 garnered great interest during filming for transforming the historic gold mining town of Walhalla into a Nepalese village.

The Mongoose will be directed by Mark Vanselow with the script by Thompson Evans.

“We are delighted to welcome Liam Neeson, Al Corley and Bart Rosenblatt back to Victoria to make yet another action-packed film,” VicScreen CEO, Caroline Pitcher said.

“This film is part of Victoria’s growing screen production pipeline, which reinforces our state’s reputation as a screen powerhouse, generating jobs for Victorian screen workers and businesses.”

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks said seeing major producers and stars returning to film in Victoria was testament to the state’s spectacular locations, exceptional crews and world class facilities.

“We’ve always known that Victoria is a sought-after screen destination. To see major producers and stars returning time and time again is testament to our spectacular locations, exceptional crews and world class facilities,” Brooks said.
