Love Actually's iconic scene 

Yes, I'm talking about the famous scene where Emma's character, Karen, busts her husband Harry (Alan Rickman) purchasing a gold necklace with a heart pendant only to discover that the gift she receives on Christmas day is a Joni Mitchell CD. 

Her suspicions of her husband having an affair with his co-worker are confirmed and we all feel that heartbreak as she privately bursts into tears. 

If that sadness wasn't enough for you, there's a fan theory floating around about the festive flick that will make the iconic scene even more heartbreaking.

Hidden detail makes famous scene even more heartbreaking

A 'hidden detail' in Emma's character Karen's outfit on Christmas day was shared by TikToker, Kathie (@the_koo_koo_nest_) and it has prompted further outrage amongst die-hard fans.

While opening presents with her husband and two children, Karen is seen dressed in a red theme - scarf, lipstick, earrings - which has been pointed out as an intentional choice for the gift she was expecting to receive. 

So did she plan her outfit to match the ruby red detailing on the pendant that she remembered seeing? 

"The way she matched her earrings to the necklace. The way she holds it together for the kids. The way she pats down the bed. I stand with Emma Thompson," the content creator wrote with her clip.

As expected, the little-known fact hit hard for many who viewed the clip. 

“But how have I never noticed the earrings ," one person commented. 

“WAIT. What do you mean she matched her earrings?!! 😭😭😭 How have I NEVER noticed that???” another surprised fan shared.

Meanwhile, other die-hard fans said they did notice it and it's the main reason that particular scene is so hard to watch. 

“Yep I’ve always said the earrings, lipstick and cardigan all ready to match it is the saddest part of all,” someone added. 

And another chimed in with: “The earrings were the bit that sent me over the edge I swear 😂 every year I’m p***** off all over again."
