Actor Daniel MacPherson is returning to live television to indulge his other passion of horse racing.
MacPherson will join the Channel 7 team for this year’s Spring Racing Carnival coverage, kicking off with Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas.
“I’ve been an owner for many years and have no regrets,” he said.
“I’m doing a bit of everything, it’s the perfect way to start the spring.”
MacPherson was previously host of live show Dancing With the Stars and departed the role in 2014 to focus on acting.
Since then he has starred in film, television and recently on the Melbourne stage in 2:22 A Ghost Story.
He joins 7Racing as a race day reporter, interviewing key trainers, jockeys and owners from the stalls and mounting yard and delivering key racing insights.
“Melbourne just finds a way to bring me back,” MacPherson said.
“I had such a wonderful time in Melbourne working on 2:22 and to get back in spring is a reward for getting through winter.
“I’m interviewing (trainer) Ciaron Maher and he’s one of the most enigmatic and interesting characters and I spent a few hours with him at his property.
“Juggling fatherhood and family and racing. All my passions.
“I love live TV and I’ve got a horse running on Caulfield Cup day. I apologise in advance for anything that happens if it wins.”
MacPherson will join the on-air team including Jason Richardson and Hamish McLachlan.
