Hollywood actor Ruby Rose is coming home to Melbourne to star in her first-ever play.
LA-based Rose has joined the cast of the spooky West End hit 2:22 A Ghost Story, alongside TV and film star Daniel MacPherson.
“I’m very excited,” Rose said.
“I’ve always wanted to do theatre, and this is my first play. I’m nervous ... because the stage is unfamiliar territory in terms of where my career has gone so far. But I’m thrilled, and also really happy to be coming home to Melbourne.”
Her Hollywood movies credits include John Wick, opposite Keanu Reeves, xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage with Vin Diesel, Vanquish, alongside Morgan Freeman, and the upcoming Dirty Angels with Eva Green.
Rose also starred in US TV dramas Orange Is The New Black and Batwoman.
While her Tinseltown CV is impressive, Rose says Melbourne and Victoria will always be a source of inspiration for her.
“Melbourne is my favourite place in the world,” she said.
“There’s a real love and joy for culture and community that sets Melbourne apart from everywhere. I miss the coffee, the food, the art, the music. Melbourne is a vibe. It really is.”
Rose snuck into town a few months ago to escape LA and recharge.
She went off-road with her tent to camp along the Great Ocean Rd.
“I found inspiration everywhere; the sea, the 12 Apostles and the landscape. I also did the manifest thing, and asked for opportunities to come home. Then this play came out of nowhere.”
Rose will play Lauren, the partner of MacPherson’s character Ben in 2:22 A Ghost Story. “She’s intelligent, but also a bit of mess, which is relatable,” Rose said laughing.
The play opens at Her Majesty’s Theatre on July 25.
