After 25 years as an actor Dan MacPherson is making a bold career move.

The Foundation and Strike Back star is dipping his toes into producing.

“It’s time in my career to tell my own stories and have my own control,’’ he said.

“I left home (in Sydney) when I was 17 and I’ve moved back at 42... it’s so bizarre to think I’ve been doing this for 25 years and there’s still an excitement about it all.”

MacPherson, who just starred in Russell Crowe’s Poker Face and upcoming release Land of Bad, said a break has helped him rejuvenate.

“I took three months off after Land of Bad on the Gold Coast, I just hit exhaustion,’’ he said.

“I had lots of great family time and I’ve got four projects coming up, a feature film in April which I’m training for now.”

MacPherson was on the Mornington Peninsula this weekend to support Steve Bastoni’s Peninsula Film Festival in Rosebud as a festival judge.

The three-day program featuring the star-studded short film festival opened with a screening Poker Face.

Almost 20 short films were screened and awarded monetary prizes by a panel of celebrity judges including MacPherson, Lachy Hulme, Michala Banas, Chrissie Swan, Georgina Haig, and acclaimed screenwriter Shaun Grant.

“I first went down to the Peninsula when I started on Neighbours and my tour guides were the Satchwell family,’’ MacPherson said.

“It’s great to see how hard Steve works to foster first-time filmmakers.”
