Grand Prix glamour role a launching pad for success

From Pia Miller to Elyse Knowles, here’s how Aussie models and WAGs have used a Formula One Grand Prix glamour role as a springboard to stardom.

The ambassador role at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix has had a history of being a launching pad for greater success.

Take 2010 ambassador, Pia Miller, for example. Since she sashayed through pit lane and rubbed shoulders with billionaire Richard Branson, she has gone on to model, act and present on television.

A year later, Ashley Hart was named GP ambassador and since she had that role in 2011, she has had international success while based in LA.

In 2012, it was Chadwick model Kate Peck who progressed to bigger things.

She became a presenter on MTV and a Myer ambassador, and is now part of Channel 10’s motorsport coverage team.

“It’s a great platform and you get a bit of media training too,’’ Peck said.

“It’s a really important time to do some good networking and start forging a path from there.

“I got my MTV gig from that position, it was crucial.

“I found my people, that’s for sure, and haven’t missed a Grand Prix ever since.”

In 2013, Chelsea Scanlan was also building momentum with her modelling career and had recently given birth.

Chadwick model Georgia Geminder was selected in 2014 and made a strong impact. She is now a businesswoman developing her own products.

In 2015, a fresh-faced beauty named Elyse Knowles burst onto the scene and she has since gone on to become one of our most in demand models, as well as a Myer ambassador.

Brit Selwood, wife of Geelong captain Joel Selwood, was the ambassador in 2016.

She said the role was a huge stepping stone.

“I’m finding that the ambassador role has given me the opportunity to show others who I really am.

“I’ve been doing lots of new things and I would love to get into presenting later on,’’ she said at the time.

In 2017, former Australia’s Next Top Model contestant Brooke Hogan was handed the ambassador title, and enjoyed mingling and learning about drivers like Lewis Hamilton.

Brooke Meredith was the 2018 ambassador and she has gone on to model and establish a luxury and wellness magazine, A Concious Collection.

Last year was the first time there were multiple ambassadors, with Dylan Alcott, Kirsten Stanley, Scotty James and Rebecca James.

This year there are also four — Jessie and Marc Murphy, Sam Groth and Priya Serrao.
