Key staff behind the landmark opening of The Langham Gold Coast have checked out in a major workforce reshuffle at the beachfront hotel.

A new general manager, Arpad Romandy, was appointed to the Langham in September, along with a new HR director, Megan Reid and executive chef Mark Marshall.

Former general manager John O’Shea left the hotel in July, with his online career profile since listing him as “self-employed”.

Bryan Cao, who had been general manager of Jewel’s owner AW Holdings for six years, has also left his position, announcing his departure last week.

“I did (work) on two remarkable projects in QLD and NSW. But most importantly, for my personal recognition, is the Jewel Gold Coast,” he said in a post on LinkedIn.

Meanwhile director of Marketing Communications Victoria Peterson, who has been in that job since before the hotel opening, is also understood to be leaving at the end of the year.

The Langham declined to comment on why individual staff had left the hotel, but said it had continued to perform well.

“As the first luxury beachfront hotel of its kind on the Gold Coast, we’ve seen excellent occupancy rates and a growing reputation as a must-visit hotel for guests seeking the ultimate luxury experience,” it said in a statement.

“The hotel recently won national recognition for the second year at the Australian Hotels Association Awards taking out Best Suite/Apartment Hotel and, at the Hotel Management Awards, was named as the “Best Resort” in Australia.”

The Langham welcomed its first guests in June 2022 and has hosted thousands of visitors since – including more than a few celebrities.

A grand opening was held that September to mark the launch of all its restaurants and facilities.

Mr O’Shea was named the first general manager of the Langham Hotel and The Jewel Residences in 2021.

New general manager Mr Romandy was previously with InterContinental Hotels Group as general manager of Hayman Island Resort and also held roles in England, Spain, and the United States.
