Paradise Point Bowls Club is set for a multimillion-dollar redevelopment and expansion.
A roof built over one of its bowling greens, an expanded clubhouse and outdoor dining will be at the centre of the project, which will modernise the complex’s facilities.
Documents lodged with Gold Coast City Council reveal the redevelopment will take place in stages.
“(We will be) redeveloping the building to the north of bowling green number one to include maintenance and storage rooms, meeting rooms, office, amenities and a lobby with stair and lift access,” the planning report reads.
“(There will be an) extension of the existing club building to the south of bowling green number two to provide an outdoor dining area, new walkway to club entry, relocated kids gaming room, and a designated outdoor smoking area.”
The first stage of work will focus on the northern building and changes to the carpark, while the second stage will see the roof installed.
The final stage is the expansion of the outdoor dining precinct.
The size of the second bowling green will be reduced from eight lanes to seven at the same time the roof is built.
Paradise Point Bowls Club was founded in 1968.
It was last significantly expanded in the early 1990s, with records showing only small changes have been made since.
The planning report reveals the club’s carpark does not “satisfy current design standards” and will be revamped to bring it into line.
“The proposed development includes a reconfiguration of the northeastern rear carparking area to improve its function and allow for new waste storage and collection areas to be provided to meet current standards,” it reads.
“Currently there are 60 carparking spaces in the northeastern parking area, several of which do not meet current standards.
“The proposed reconfiguration of the carparking area will result in 53 carparking spaces and eight motorcycle parking spaces being in the northeastern rear carparking area.”
The project will go before council’s planning committee before Christmas for consideration.
