Underworld figure Andre Kallita would like to leave Sydney and move overseas, his lawyer has revealed, after police allegedly uncovered a plot to kill him.

Kallita was allegedly the target of a murder conspiracy that was only stopped by luck when Azam El-Mohamad, 31, was pulled over while in the back of a taxi in Waterloo last December.

Police officers allegedly assumed El-Mohamad was involved in a drug deal after he went into a housing commission unit and returned a short time later, before finding guns, a balaclava, gloves and two phones in his backpack.

Kallita has since employed a personal security firm, while his solicitor Greg Goold told The Daily Telegraph he would ideally like to move overseas and out of reach of danger.

“Absolutely [he’s worried about his life], because the threats the police are investigating are credible,” Kallita’s solicitor Greg Goold said outside court.

“He would like to leave the country, he feels like if he’s able to leave Australia [and] live elsewhere peacefully, he has a chance of prolonging his life.

“They [the police] went to quite considerable lengths to protect his safety which was to their credit.”

Mr Goold was also the solicitor for slain bikie kingpin and close friend of Kallita, Alen Moradian.

Moradian had applied to the NSW State Parole Authority to be allowed to go overseas after police informed him about a bounty on his head, but that request was refused.

Mr Goold said he believed authorities had become more amenable to approving requests to move abroad.

“I think it’s a really positive movement by the police [and others] and a positive attempt to save people’s lives,” he said.

“I think first of all they have a duty to save everyone’s lives and to protect and save everyone.”

Separate to the conspiracy to murder him, police allege Kallita was at the centre of a dispute between an alleged underworld figure, referred to as AA and Alen Moradian.

It was this dispute which allegedly led to Moradian’s murder at Bondi Junction last July.

Sulaiman Ahmad and Azam El-Mohamad were arrested in January over the alleged plot to kill Andre Kallita at Day Street Police Station.

Court documents detail allegations that after Moradian was killed, AA had a conversation with an unnamed associate questioning why Moradian did not pay a debt owed to another party.

“What about the money he (Moradian) made the c**ksucker,” the associate said.

“And never once did he say: ‘Bro, I’m just going to sort this problem out and pay the debt’.

“No, f**king Andre (Kallita) has to do it, or (why didn’t he say) take a lump sum and give them five hundred, give them a mil(lion).”

The same court documents state how in response, AA allegedly said: “That’s right, you want to back up the problem, fix it, you lend him (Andre) and then let him pay”.

On September 20 last year AA was arrested and charged with being the mastermind of Moradian’s murder. Three others have also been charged in connection with the murder, including the alleged triggerman.

There is no suggestion that Kallita was involved in the murder of Moradian or knew what the debt was that the two were talking about.
