They’re the people you least want to see knocking at your door when you’re renovating and the people you most want to see when you’re in the market to buy or sell – but it’s always a surprise to see them in court.
As living costs, including house prices, continue to rise in NSW, the smiling faces behind some of the biggest house sales in the state have gained more attention recently; but for some in the profession, not always for the right reasons.
Below are some of NSW’s real estate agents whose recent bad behaviour has landed them in court.
Deran Osman
Inner west real estate agent Deran Osman, 25, copped a hefty fine and lost his licence for four months after he drunkenly crashed near the entrance of a major Sydney freeway.
Court documents stated Osman, from Balmain, crashed a black BMW into a dividing barrier leading into the WestConnex M8 tunnel at Mascot around 4am on January 19.
He told police he had “a few drinks” after they found him in the wreckage, and he was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
He later returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.134 – more than two and a half times the limit.
He faced the Downing Centre Local Court on March 31, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving and negligent driving.
The court heard Osman was only charged after he “turned himself” into Redfern Police Station nearly a month later on February 16 – the same day he was given a licence suspension notice.
Osman was convicted on both counts and ordered to pay a total of $1320 in fines.
His licence was suspended for four months, after which he must enter an interlock program for 12 months.
No appeals have been lodged.
Kirollos Mina
South Sydney real estate agent Kirollos Mina, 24, was caught driving while suspended after he was busted speeding 45km/h over the speed limit.
Court documents state police pulled over the Rockdale man for mobile testing in Bexley on August 28, 2024, and ran his plates after he claimed to have left his wallet at home and did not have a digital licence.
Police checks revealed Mina was suspended from driving.
He faced the Sutherland Local Court on October 15 and was convicted of driving while suspended.
He was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for a further six months.
Mina’s initial licence suspension was due to expire in November 2024, however, he will now be off the road until May 2025.
No appeals have been lodged.
Jason Paul Crouch
Hunter real estate agent Jason Paul Crouch was jailed after he used hidden cameras to secretly film women and children for his own “sexual gratification”.
Crouch hid the cameras inside bathrooms where he filmed nine women and children; some recorded “completely naked” while getting dressed or changed, while others had been recorded urinating and were exposed.
This went on for four years from August 2019 until his arrest in September 2023.
Crouch pleaded guilty to 15 offences, including filming a person in a private act without consent and intentionally recording an intimate image without consent, while 11 other similar charges were taken into account.
Newcastle District Court heard Crouch was caught out by his then partner when she went through his bag because she was concerned he was being unfaithful.
He was sentenced to four-years jail with a non-parole period of two years and six months.
A notice of intention to appeal was filed with the Supreme Court on March 18.
Bishnu Rimal
Sydney real estate agent Bishnu Rimal almost killed his female passenger and left two other motorists seriously injured after crashing his work car while exceedingly drunk.
Rimal was driving a BMW i4 coupe at Rouse Hill just after 9.30pm on March 26, 2023, when he crashed at speed with a Mazda CX9 waiting to turn into the driveway of an industrial complex along Withers Rd.
Court documents state Rimal’s passenger suffered facial fractures and extensive internal injuries to her spine, and underwent surgery and a blood transfusion.
Doctors said she would have died without emergency medical intervention.
The documents state Rimal and the woman had been drinking at The Australian Brewery at Rouse Hill for more than four hours when Rimal stumbled to his car and got in the driver’s seat – crashing four minutes after they left the pub.
A blood test revealed he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.153 – more than three times the limit.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and one count of causing bodily harm by misconduct in a motor vehicle.
He was sentenced in Parramatta District Court on February 19 to a two year, eight month intensive correction order.
He was also ordered to complete 500 hours of community service under the supervision of Windsor Community Corrections, and was barred from driving until March 2026, some three years after the crash.
He has not appealed.
Trevor Hamilton
A simmering feud between two leading real estate agents boiled over when one rang the other from a private number and left a sinister threat.
McGrath Terrigal principal Trevor James Hamilton, 50, faced Wyong Local Court on April 16 where he pleaded guilty to one count of intimidation.
Hamilton was found guilty, without conviction, and placed on a conditional release order to be of good behaviour for 18 months.
An agreed set of facts states Hamilton rang a rival agent from an anonymous number on February 6 and left a message on his voicemail saying “watch your back c--t”.
Hamilton’s solicitor David Kelly told the court that was the culmination of long-running animosity between the pair, which started back in October 2023 when the victim had an exclusive agency agreement to list a property.
Hamilton has not lodged an appeal.
