A crowd of victims and their supporters gathered in the courtroom as they watched the man who was convicted for secretly filming women and children for his own “sexual gratification”, learn he will remain behind bars for almost a year longer.

Prominent Hunter real estate agent Jason Crouch – which this publication can now identify – admitted to using secret cameras hidden inside bathrooms and other spaces to film nine women and children.

A court heard some victims were recorded “completely naked” while getting dressed or changed, while others had been recorded urinating and were exposed.

The 53-year-old disgraced Singleton businessman was found to have filmed his victims over a four-year period on multiple occasions across the Hunter, dating back to August 2019 until his arrest in September 2023.

Crouch pleaded guilty to 15 offences which included filming a person in a private act without consent and intentionally recording an intimate image without consent, while 11 other similar charges were taken into account.

Newcastle District Court had a packed public gallery on Wednesday as an expressionless Crouch appeared via video link and learned of a four-year jail sentence with a non-parole period of two years and six months.

That result means he will remain behind bars for almost a year longer before any chance of release.

Judge Tim Gartelmann said Crouch’s actions were a “gross violation” of victims’ privacy which will cause a loss of their sense of safety and security.

The court heard the 53-year-old installed the cameras in various places and also used to film through windows from outside, while engaging with conduct with the recordings for his “sexual gratification”.

Mr Gartelmann also said while Crouch expressed some recognition of harm done to the victims, he declined to express any apology to them in open court, instead referring to a letter written to the court which showed he accepted responsibility but that he was not “profoundly remorseful”.

The court heard Crouch was caught out by his then partner when she went through his bag because she was concerned he was being unfaithful.

There she uncovered a phone hidden in a sock which revealed intimate pictures and videos.

The court heard she confronted him about it and he acknowledged he was “stupid” and “f**ked in the head” before she went to police and officers searched his phone before he was arrested.

On examination, police uncovered 11 videos of child abuse material and 16 video files containing six women filmed in a bathroom without their knowledge.

Some videos included slow motion where he would zoom in on intimate areas and was able to ‘live monitor’ and adjust the camera positions during the recordings.
