New try scoring sensations, record win, undefeated run ended in Sydney 1st Colts rugby Rd 5

There’s two new names sharing the lead at the top of the tries corers comp, as Randwick racked up the season’s biggest scoreline and Eastern Suburbs ended the run of a title contender in an enthralling round five of Sydney Rigby Union 1st Colts.

Randwick’s Matteo Cleverley and Warringah’s Ezekiel James Guttenbeil both produced three-try performances in their round five battles.

This has seen them head to the top of the tryscorers list with a hefty tally of seven tries each across the first five games of the season.

Defending champions Eastern Suburbs continued their hot form to take the first win off the Manly Marlins in their Friday night entertainer.

Gordon now remain the only team in the entire competitions to remain undefeated.

But it was Randwick who produced the biggest scoreline and most emphatic victory of the season in round five with their 88-0 demolition of West Harbour in and extraordinary match.

The weekend results have left Gordon to lead the competition on 24 points with Warringah and Easts on 22 each and Manly on 20.

Randwick and Sydney Uni are next with 16 points each.

Eastern Suburbs 49 v 14 Manly Woollahra Oval

Scrum-half Ryan Hunter was one of the stars of the show as Easts became the first team this season to beat the Manly Marlins wit this surprisingly emphatic win at Woolahra Oval.

Hunter was one of numerous three try heroes this round as Easts outscored league leaders Manly seven tries to two in this matchh.

The defending Colts champions have found form at the right time to re-establish themselves as one of the firm favourites to win the competition in 2025.

On Friday night, Ben Whyte and Arthur Greer also scored along with Max Soepono and Elliot Rainford

Jonty Fowler nailed all of his sevens conversions

Thomas Hardy Bridgewood scored Manly’s two tries in their first loss of the season.

Warringah 78 v 0 Two Blues, Pittwater Rugby Park

Over at Pittwater Park the next day, Warringah scored a whopping 78-0 win over the Parramatta Two Blues.

It was the equal second biggest score of the season

Guttenbeil was one of the stars with his three tries while Brody Hickman made eight conversions.

Other try scorers were Aaron Brandon with two tries and Joel Couper, Sam Blank, Nathaniel Thomas, Oliver McCracken, George Schmude and Lewis Wilson all scoring a try each.

Wildfires 36 v 47 Sydney Uni, Nelson Bay

Charles Bull scored two for Sydney Uni as they halted the Wildfires run in the competition at Nelson Bay.

Sam Sharman at fullback also had a good game with a try and six conversions.

Other try scorers were Tom Hartman, the inform Dane Mitchell, Harper Strachan and Kami Tuqalo.

The Wildfires had five tries scorers in Ethan Hamilton, Jack Moyle, Drew Lancaster, Charlie Maroney and Mitchell Balzer.

Oscar Davey made four conversions and a penalty.

Northern Suburbs 17 v Souths 42 at Forshaw Rugby Park.

Southern Districts returned to good form in this match against the winless Norths with two players scoring two tries each.

Thomas Smith and Ollie Hinton both went over twice in the match with Coen Austin and Liam Manu also scoring.

Jacob Prlja made three conversions and two penalties.

Bailey Park, Ben Whatley and Will Stubbings all scored tries for Norths with Whatley also making a conversion.

Gordon 75 v 12 Eastwood T G Millner Field

Gordon extended their undefeated run in the competition with a barnstorming 75–12 win over Eastwood at TG Milner field.

Alexander Ward was another three try hero in the game with Archie McGurk scoring two tries.

Will McKinnon, Charlie Foster, Charlie Baker, Hamish MacDonald, Max Roach and Henry Colvin also scored tries

Ben Playford chipped in 10 conversions in the match.

Eastwood scored just two tries from Mitch Holmes and Tom Fitzhenry with Luke Alderson converting one

West Harbour 0 v Randwick 88 at Nagle Park.

In the biggest score of the entire season Randwick demolished West Harbour.

Two players scored three tries each for Randwick in Matteo Cleverley and Mitch Chen.

Eight other players chipped in with a try each in Leon Mason-Bunton, Felix Turinui, Tom Farr-Jones, Riley Evans, Caleb Sinclair-Harris, Zion Poitaha, Kian Edmed and Beau Delaney.
