BIOGRAPHY

KAY Dunne describes herself as a Bondi resident with a broad education, covering science, social sciences, humanities and creative arts.

She says she worked as a professional actor in her early years before taking up a role with the NSW public service in human resources.

Kay later moved into senior roles in corporate policy and strategy.

She says he has also worked as a scientific officer in the public hospital system and a high school teacher. More recently she has been writing short stories.

She says she is committed to combating climate change and protecting the marine and land environment of our harbour and ocean shores.

Also, better planning to stop over-development and preserving the character of our built heritage and achieving affordable housing for first home buyers and renters.

She also wants to secure jobs via a more diverse economy and reducing housing construction reliance.

Kay says she believes that to achieve these goals we should include a sustainable population policy for the environmental carrying capacity of Australia.

1. Do you think we need a new public secondary school in the Wentworth electorate?

Yes, infrastructure has not kept up with population growth.

2. What are your thoughts on the current rate of development?

We are growing too fast with too much housing development and we need better planning to stop over-development.

3. Do you support the proposed development in the national park at South Head?

No, we do not support this development, we prefer to retain this area for local residents and the general public.

4. Should we make changes to negative gearing?

Yes, to achieve more affordable housing, we would like to see negative gear removed, however not to apply retrospectively.

5. What are the key elements of your tax policy?

Remove negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions on property. Ending multi-national tax avoidance. Increasing housing tax on overseas buyers. And reducing the company tax rate for local manufacturing from 30 per cent to 25 per cent.

6. Do you have a stance on corporate political donations?

Yes. We would cap political donations at $10,000 per entity per year, require more timely disclosure, and ban foreign political donations.

7. What is the most important health related issue?

Affordability for low-income earners and senior citizens.

8. What support should be given to businesses?

Tax incentives for small business and local manufacturing.

9. What emphasis should be placed on funding to the arts?

Funding for start-ups and protection of live music venues from housing over-development.

10. How should Australia proceed with regards to immigration?

Retain a non-discriminatory intake including humanitarian whilst returning to the long-term average intake of 70,000 per annum from the current 200,000.

11. Should we change how we process asylum seekers?

Yes. Greater transparency to ensure human rights are protected.

12. What action should be taken with regard to climate change?

Strong action including investment in renewable energy, there should be a moratorium on new export coal mines, and a phasing out of fossil fuel subsidies.

13. Do you support live animal export?

No. This should be phased out over the term of the next federal Parliament.

14. Do you think we need to tackle law and order differently?

Australia should have a stronger focus on crime prevention through education and health services.

15. How should we continue to move towards reconciliation with indigenous people?

Through a more consultative process Australia should improve the health and wellbeing of indigenous Australians including closing the gap targets, greater employment opportunities and recognition of indigenous arts and culture.
