BUDGET 2022: Winners and losers

The rapid pace of residential development in north west Sydney has been met with calls from residents to increase the number childcare centres.

Current trends indicate there will be 107,000 new Hills residents in the next 14 years. This is staggering population growth — from today’s 183,000 residents to an estimated 290,000 by 2036.

Multiple childcare centres are being planned across the Hills Shire to help meet the demand caused by this region’s booming population.

These centres include a four-storey childcare centre and medical hub and a $5.6 million development in the Hills’ newest housing estate.

Here is a list of some of the newest childcare centres proposed for north west Sydney. All of these centres are remain under assessment by The Hills Shire Council.

A $5.6 million childcare centre is planned for the Hills’ newest housing development, The Gables at Box Hill.

When complete, the estate will contain a town centre, a primary school and about 4100 homes.

Developer Stockland has recently revealed a proposal for a 130-space childcare centre, with 43 carparking spaces on Red Gables Road, Box Hill — the same road as the newly constructed Santa Sophia Catholic College.

At this centre, the children will be split over two floors — zero to three-year-old babies will be on the ground while children older than three will be located on the first floor. There will also be eight playrooms and 24 staff members.

The proposed hours of operation are from 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday.

According to the developer, this childcare centre is likely to be operated by Guardian Childcare and Education, an established child care provider which currently runs 42 centres across Sydney.

The centre would contain two levels of basement carparking with 12 visitor car spaces and 26 spaces for the childcare and medical staff.

The bottom three levels of the site would be dedicated to the childcare centre, with space for 75 children, aged between two and six years old, and eleven staff. The proposed hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 7am to 6pm.

The medical centre would be located on the fourth floor and will run seven days a week.
