A semirural patch in Box Hill could soon receive fresh infrastructure to support its booming population growth.
Development plans, valued at just over $5 million, have been lodged for the construction of a four-storey child care facility and medical centre at 5 Alan Street, Box Hill.
The proposed location is in a semirural area that is undergoing marked redevelopment — plans are already in place for a $55 million Box Hill Village that would help cater for the influx of new families moving into Sydney’s burgeoning north west.
The proposed site is within the North West Growth Centre — it’s located approximately 350 metres north of the Windsor and Terry Road intersection and four kilometres north east of the Riverstone Railway Station.
According to the developer’s plans, Box Hill is “envisaged as an area for high growth and … (this development) is intended to support this growth by providing beneficial child care and medical services to the local community as well as local employment.”
Planning documents also state: “(It is) expected that a large proportion of users will be from the immediate locality and within walking distance from the proposed development.”
According to the developer’s plans, the centre would contain two levels of basement carparking with 12 visitor car spaces and 26 spaces for the childcare and medical staff.
The bottom three levels of the site would be dedicated to the childcare centre, with space for 75 children, aged between two and six years old, and eleven staff.
The proposed hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 7am to 6pm.
The medical centre would be located on the fourth floor and will run seven days a week.
It will contain: three consulting rooms, a reception, a staffroom, as well as three medical practitioners and one receptionist.
Planning documents argue that “The proposed … child care and medical centre at the subject site would provide much needed child care and health care services to the local community of Box Hill.”
“The positive economic benefits of the two uses would contribute towards local employment opportunities as well as allow parents to return to the workforce.”
This development application will be determined in the coming months by the Hills Shire Council.
