The rapid pace of residential development in northwest Sydney has been met with calls from residents to increase the number of parks and community spaces for the area known as ‘The Garden Shire’.
Now, one of The Hills’ fastest growing suburbs could be set to receive a sporting mecca with development plans valued at just under $20 million.
Funding for a proposed 4ha sporting complex at The Gables is set to be voted on at this evening’s Hills Shire Council meeting.
The Gables, a fast growing residential precinct in Box Hill, includes more than 3600 homes, a retail and commercial town centre and a new $150 million high-rise school.
In an extraordinary set of photographs, the Australian location intelligence company Nearmap has studied Box Hill’s rapid growth from a semirural hub to a residential centre.
Nearmap provides government organisations, alongside architectural, construction and engineering firms, with easy, instant access to high resolution aerial imagery, city-scale 3D content, artificial intelligence data sets, and geospatial tools to assist with urban planning, monitoring and development projects in across the globe.
The proposed Gables sporting complex would receive funding from Stockland Developments and the NSW Government.
According to council documents, Stockland are required to deliver infrastructure, such as sporting and community facilities, to help cater for The Gables’ fast growing residential population.
The NSW Government has agreed to provide more than $10 million in funding for the construction of two playing fields and sports field lighting.
This funding could also be directed towards an additional off-leash dog area, basketball courts and improved amenities.
Following community consultation, suggestions for additional sporting facilities to be delivered by Stockland include a skate park, outdoor fitness gym, an ‘adventure’ playground with trampolines, a water play area and outdoor barbecues.
The Hills Shire Council will vote on this proposal at tonight’s council meeting.
If approved, construction is scheduled to commence in September of this year and reach completion in June 2023. Stockland would manage the construction of this project in consultation with council.
