A former financial adviser allegedly accessed the self-managed superannuation funds of five people in Sydney’s northwest and defrauded more than $160,000.
Abdullah Popal, 40, faced Blacktown Local Court on Monday on charges including five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
His lawyer entered pleas of not guilty to all charges on his behalf.
Documents tendered to the court state between November 11 and 28 last year, Popal is alleged to have accessed the self-managed super funds of five people without authorisation in Rouse Hill.
A statement issued by police in May alleges Popal defrauded $160,184 during this time.
“In November 2024, officers attached to Riverstone Police Area Command established an investigation under Strike Force Flowerpot after five people reported the alleged unauthorised access to self-managed super funds,” the statement read.
A search warrant was carried out at a home in Rouse Hill where Popal was arrested on May 6.
Popal remains on bail and will return to the same court on July 28.
