Shocking list of concreter’s serial traffic offences revealed

Disqualified driver Jye Kyran Thompson- who led police on a pursuit -was convicted in Grafton Court where his shocking list of traffic offences was laid bare.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A 23 year old concreter faced court on three fresh traffic offences that added to his prior 8 speeding offences and over 14 traffic infringement matters.

Jye Kyran Thompson pleaded guilty to the current charges of failing to stop for the police, driving while disqualified for the second time and speeding in excess of 10 kilometres.

The court heard on December 16 2021 Thompson failed to stop his vehicle after being directed to by police who then pursued him as he sped home.

Thompson’s solicitor John Kelly told the court the offending is very serious, that his client had drug and alcohol issues leading up to the event and had immediately admitted his wrongdoings to police.

Mr Kelly told the court Thompson had been drug and alcohol free for close to ten weeks and is committed to continue working as a concreter at Nat Sewell Concreting and

Magistrate Kathy Crittenden questioned that commitment in light of his completion of the Traffic Offenders Program, two major speeding offences last year and more than 14 infringements of the Road Traffic Legislation.

“When the court has disqualified you have continued to drive,” Ms Crittenden addressed Thompson.

“When you are dealt with you disregard the court orders,” she said.

Ms Crittenden noted two major speeding offences on April 2 and July 16 exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 kilometres an hour and a disqualification of six months.

Ms Crittenden told Thompson the most common cause of fatalities on our roads is from speed and the laws exist “for the lives and safety of others”.

Thompson was convicted for failing to comply with the police to stop his vehicle and fined $300.

He was also convicted and sentenced for driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period – second offence and given a Community Corrections Order for 12 months from May 9.

Conditions of the order include doing the Traffic Offenders Program again.

He was further disqualified from holding a driver’s license for 12 months from May 9.
