‘No excuse’: man convicted of sharing intimate image

A Townsend construction worker has faced Grafton Court for distributing an intimate image of his ex partner without her consent.

The man in his 30s shared the image on April 15 a day after the relationship broke up.

His solicitor told the court his client had pleaded guilty to the charge of intentionally distribute intimate image without consent.

After reading the police facts Magistrate Kathy Crittenden told the man “There is no excuse of any kind for your conduct”.

“People are entitled to end relationships as they see fit,” Ms Crittenden said.

“You saw fit to distribute an image provided to you in that relationship,” she said.

Ms Crittenden acknowledged the mental harm done to the victim and the harm done to victims of such crimes “in a modern world where everybody has a mobile phone”.

Ms Crittenden told the man that “distributing an image like this is a serious criminal matter”.

The man was convicted in Grafton Court on May 9 to a Community Correction Order for a period of 12 months to commence from his date of appearance.
