A cowardly man has been jailed after he convinced his new partner to move to Nimbin with him before bashing her in the street.
Louis John Steven Allison, 35, appeared at Lismore Local Court via audiovisual link in custody before Magistrate Michael Dakin this week.
Allison was charged with common assault, common assault (domestic-violence related), and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was also charged with destroying, damaging property and stalking causing fear of physical and or mental harm (domestic-violence related).
In late December 2024, Allison met a 32-year-old woman in Hervey Bay, Queensland, and they started a relationship.
She soon learned he was a heavy methamphetamine user, which drastically altered his behaviour, causing paranoia, verbal abuse and accusations of infidelity, facts state.
During an argument at Eli Creek, Allison made disturbing comments about his ex-partner and generalised that women deserved to be beaten, causing her to fear for her safety.
On January 18, she discovered Allison was unfaithful, sparking weeks of arguments and on January 28, he suggested a fresh start in Nimbin.
On arriving in Nimbin, the pair argued and Allison kicked the woman while she was sitting on the ground and later put her in a headlock.
Soon after, he put her in another headlock and made a vague threat to kill her.
She escaped to a bridge, hid from him, yet after persistent calls she answered him.
He found her and smashed her phone before punching her in the face multiple times, causing bruising and internal bleeding.
The woman left Allison and went into crisis accommodation however he showed up at her new home on February 11, banging on her door demanding entry. She contacted the police, fearing for her safety.
Police arrested Allison, who refused a police interview and underwent a forensic procedure.
Mr Dakin convicted Allison, sentencing him to 12 months jail with a non-parole period of eight months.
Allison is due for parole on October 11.
