TV rivals faced with awkward royal showdown

AUSTRALIA’S biggest media stars have converged on London for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, but the TV personalities have already been hit with their first awkward moment.

AUSTRALIA’S biggest media stars have converged on London for the royal wedding, but awkwardly they’re in closer proximity than ever before.

The Qantas flight from Sydney to London on Friday was jam-packed with celebs. Sam Armytage, Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta, Edwina Bartholomew, Karl Stefanovic and Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa were all on the same plane.

Interestingly Armytage was upgraded the whole way from Sydney to Singapore and Singapore to London while Bartholomew and Stefanovic were upgraded from Sydney to Singapore only and sent back to their business class seats for the rest of the journey.

New Today host Georgie Gardner was already in London having reportedly asked bosses for several days to acclimatise.

Sunrise’s David “Kochie” Koch flew Saturday after attending the Port Adelaide showdown.

After waving goodbye at Heathrow, the rival TV personalities were shocked when they realised they were staying in the same hotel in St Pancras.

Gardner was seen awkwardly greeting the Sunrise hosts after realising they’d be sharing the same roof for the next week and a half.

There are approximately 35 Nine staff and about 25 Seven staff all staying at the central five star hotel.

It is understood that Nine had previously planned to only have Gardner on the ground in London in the lead-up to the wedding but when Sunrise announced all of their hosts would be going to London for the week Stefanovic was quickly booked to join his co-host.

Confidential was told that the teams from the rival networks coincidentally ended up in the same bar over the weekend.

There have also been a number of awkward encounters with major network stars negotiating narrow corridors of a city hotel to try to politely avoid each other, and have been doing the polite nod as they enjoy the buffet breakfast.
