STUNNING Aussie model Jessica Gomes has turned heads at this year’s David Jones new season fashion launch, appearing on the catwalk as a blonde!
While the new look is a wig, it’s clear Gomes is under the impression that blondes have more fun, setting the pace for an energetic, disco flavoured new season fashion launch.
David Jones left its comfort zone this season, choosing to swap the cosier confines of its level 7 space for a cavernous back lot venue at Fox Studios to showcase its retro New York themed collections parade.
Gomes, the store’s face, kicked things off in a metallic disco-inspired Romance Was Born ensemble, her light tresses transforming her into an exotic blonde bombshell and causing the crowd to do a collective double take as she appeared on the glossy catwalk.

All six of the headlining stars turned heads, each looking in top physical form, including special guest Gemma Ward who is pregnant with her second child.
New ambassador Jesinta Campbell was also baring the results of a tough pre-show workout regimen, strutting down the runway in a cheek- flashing swimsuit by Bec & Bridge and an activewear ensemble which highlighted her sculpted arms and whittled down waist — the result of months of pilates, boxing and limited carbohydrates.
Aussie export Jarrod Scott made his debut on the David Jones runway, having previously shot editorials for the department store.
“It’s my first time walking for David Jones so I’m pretty excited to be back over working with Australian brands,” he said. “I haven’t really done a show in a long time so it’s something exciting for me, it’s a bit different.”
When it came to the fashion, the standard bright summer colour palette was muted again this year, with black, neutrals and dusty pastels the dominant shades. Prints did make regular appearances thanks to Zimmermann, Romance Was Born, Manning Cartell and Camilla, with retro patterns a popular pick for local designers.
The seventies dominated the runway, thanks to a wealth of off-the-shoulder peasant tops and dresses and disco-esque metallic fabrics and silhouettes.
And it was this trend which wrapped up the parade; with the four headlining female beauties channelling retro cult film Xanadu in embellished seventies style ensembles from Zimmermann, perfect for a skate at a disco roller derby.
