PREGNANT model Gemma Ward is rapt that her changing body shape has not stopped her from doing what she loves most — strutting the catwalk.
In an industry where waiflike models are the norm, Ward says she’s delighted the David Jones fashion show is embracing women of all sizes.
“I am really excited that they’ve embraced me and this concept,” Ward, 14-weeks pregnant, told The Daily Telegraph.
“I just think it is a really lovely way to celebrate a period in what some women go through and it is nice to celebrate all the different ways your body changes.”
It has been more than a decade since Ward walked in a David Jones parade, the last time being when she was 15.
“It was a long time ago,” said the model, who is already mum to two-year-old daughter Naia.
Ward will reunite with best girlfriend and David Jones ambassador Jessica Gomes on the catwalk at Fox Studios on Wednesday night.
Also walking in the parade will be Montana Cox, Jason Dundas and Jesinta Campbell.
Her final outfit choices are yet to be determined, although she says she is open to wearing swimwear in the Spring/Summer collection showing. “I suppose I will just make sure that I am feeling comfortable, nothing that will restrict me too much.”
She added, joking: “I’m really doing this so that my baby can have a first catwalk show early.”
Of the pregnancy, Ward indicated she had passed the stage of morning sickness common in the first trimester.
