Redland-Victoria Point scaled a mountain top to defeat Broadbeach, with fullback Adrian Williams doing something most struggle to achieve - quell Broadbeach forward gun Jordan Moncrieff.
And as such, Williams was first chosen into the Squad of the Week for his enormous effort in his team’s upset win over the premiership pacesetters.
Redland-Victoria Point coach Phil Carse said it was a fantastic team performance - so good he found it difficult to nominate one better player from the other. “It was so hard to pick the best players. It was a great team performance,’’ Carse said.

But when pushed on the issue, Carse said Williams did his job on Moncrieff while both Aaron Christensen and Tom Matthew’s displayed poise and ability to “hit the scoreboard’’.
He also said Billy Johnson, Harrison Kerr, Caleb Franks, Scott Miller, Kailem Baker and ruckman Jarrod Huddy led the way.
The final score was 14.6-90 to 11.10.76.
Broadbeach coach Craig O’Brien nominated back pocket player Nick Burton as his best.
In another thriller, Labrador somehow got past Maroochydore to win 13.9-87 to 13.8-86.
“It was a great contest,’’ said Labrador coach Nick Malceski.
“Both teams gained momentum in the last quarter and when we were challenged by Maroochydore our boys responded the right way,’’ he said.
Maroochydore coach Andrew Cadzow said his team learned valuable lessons after a second half fightback which put his team into a position to win.
“We were poor in the first half with skill errors and turnovers. We kept giving it back to them,’’ he reflected, before praising the second half about face.
Ruckman Jacob Simpson was again enormous for Maroochy, while fullback Ben Kethro and centre half forward Michael Stevens shone.
Mt Gravatt again fought hard before being subdued by Palm Beach Currumbin 15.10-100 to 10.11-71 and in another close one Surfers Paradise came from behind to upset Morningside 12.10-82 to 10.7-67 in front of roaring local supporters.
“I was very happy with the pressure we applied and how well we defended,’’ said Surfers coach Brad Moore.
“We had 22 contributors all day. And despite Morningside taking the lead late in the game, we didn’t panic and finished strong.’’
Moore said he had a number of top players, but four who were at the top of their game were Matt Doran, Jack Yelland, Alby Jones and Nick Harrison.
For Morningside, Clint Watts said defenders Will Moloney and Tom Griffiths were his best.
Mt Gravatt Vultures coach Tony Lynn said his team was starting to grow.
“Our young boys started to show more confidence and back themselves in more often,’’ he said.
He also had high praise for his back six who were “very good under a lot of pressure’’.
PBC coach Russell Moloney said fullback Jed Harrison was his best, along with Jed Foggo (half back), Brinn Little (Centre half back).
