QAFL Squad of the Week round 8

Panthers wingman Darcy Cameron lit up Esplen Oval while Sherwood, Surfers Paradise and Mt Gravatt had rollicking home victories as we assembled the QAFL Squad of the Week.

A Panthers’ winger lit Esplen Oval, a Surfers Paradise midfielder wound the clock back while Mt Gravatt excelled in QAFL action this weekend.

Nathan Colenso, whose dad Andy was a hell of a player himself, shone down forward for Morningside in its 17.9-111 to 13.6-84 home win over Palm Beach Currumbin.

But the big star for Morningside was Darcy Cameron who coach Clint Watts singled out as “outstanding’’.

Supporting that pair at the other end of the field was defender Tom Griffiths who played his role in restricting the opposition.

It was a battle royale in the midfield throughout.

Palm Beach Currumbin ruckman Jon Croad was mighty for the visitors and from his efforts Corey Joyce was off and running in the midfield.

Down the ground, Jack Anthony was a focal point for PBC, as the Gold Coast team tried to reel in Morningside’s early advantage.

Mt Gravatt Vultures soared to a 21.21-147 to 9.5-59 victory against Noosa, a huge result for the side.

“We started really well,’’ said Mt Gravatt coach Tony Lynn.

“Our first quarter was really solid with some great ball movement and everyone played their role.’’

Lynn said Luke O’Sullivan (midfield), backmen Ethan Kerr and Joseph Murphy all tried hard for Mt Gravatt, while Brendan Telford played well down forward.

Noosa coach Adam Bovalino said Seb Rogers at centre half back and Aaron Laskey in the midfield best served his outfit.
