Broadbeach full forward Jordan Moncrieff made it 19 goals in two matches while Morningside ruckman Brad Hodge played his way into the Squad of the Week following a sensational round 7 QAFL action.
Moncrieff, the man dubbed the ‘Mayor’. is hitting his straps on the back of his high fitness levels.
When you are a tall, can run and provide second and third efforts around the ground then you are always going to be a weapon.
He was on fire kicking 10 goals as Broadbeach defeated Mt Gravatt 20-17-137 to Mt Gravatt 8-5-53.
Moncrieff had two elite helpers - Black Erickson and Tom Betson.
Midfielder Erickson continued his good form in the clash against Mt Gravatt. He is another Cat who is at peak fitness and it’s allowing his silky skills with the ball to shine. Coach Craig O’Brien said Erickson was back to the form that won him a Grogan Medal.
It’s fair to say Betson took his opportunity. The versatile player has been banging the door down with good form in the reserves and finally got his chance back at senior level at the weekend. Betson played in the ruck and provided good energy around the ground with his athleticism and mobility.

Mt Gravatt were best served by half forward flanker Daine McDonald, midfielder Luke O’Sullivan, Craig Malone who toiled in the ruck while half back Todd Carbone worked tirelessly. .
Hodge was best on ground for the Panthers in an away win against Noosa in QAFL action on Saturday. Morningside won 12.17-89 to 9.7-61
Hodge amassed 70 hit outs and kicked three goals in an elite performance that secured Morningside a valuable road trip victory.
Around him half forward Tom Jeffrey and midfielder Sam Kalbfell were very good, but it all stemmed from Hodge’s exhaustive effort at ruck.
In a losing team, Noosa’s Will O’Dwyer was mighty in the forward pocket while Jai Fitzpatrick was outstanding across the midfield.
Labrador’s stampeding victory - 23.14-152 to 12.10-82 over Palm Beach Currumbin was spearheaded by dominant players at both ends of the field - and across the middle.
Labrador coach Mick Malcheski said his full forward Bryce Retzlaff, back pocket Kurt McMahon and ruckman Andy Hollis were supreme.
Also throw into the mix midfielders Tom Simpson and Alex McKay and you have a winning formation.
In a real captain’s game, Retzlaff booted seven goals and took some strong contested marks.
It was the tall’s best game of the season so far and the quality delivery from the midfielders played a huge role in it.
Hollis spent the entire game in the ruck and competed well against the Lions who had two talls rotating through the position.
You could throw up a host of magnets and land on a player who was just as superb but Kurt McMahon deserves a mention.
He went down back and played on former AFL player Trent Stubbs and did well to silence him. It was a disciplined performance.
For Palm Beach Currumbin, hats off to Jon Croad, Jack Anthony and Ben McInney.
Croad tried his heart out all day in the ruck against an in-form Labrador Tigers team and provided a strong presence when he pushed forward.
Anthony, a booming forward, kicked six majors in a losing side.
Anthony loves the wrestle and was incredibly strong in the contest. Few can beat him one-on-one but Palm Beach Currumbin just couldn’t get the ball to him enough.
McInney had some tough assignments throughout the course of the day but stood up for the Lions.
He started down back on Tigers forward Bryce Retzlaff, then went forward himself before spending some time in the middle.
Wherever he went the athletic McInney found a way to get the ball in his hands.
In the closest game of the weekend, Sherwood and Wilston Grange “went right down to the wire’’ according to Magpies coach Adrian Fletcher.
Sherwood prevailed 14-15-99 to 14-6-90, with ruck rover Will Fletcher, wingman Dan Edwards wing, key forward Aaron Highlands and defender Luke Mitchell digging in for Sherwood.
Wilston Grange were almost as good, with their effort being dragged along by midfielder Hugh Fidler who coach Brent Moloney nominated as best for the Gorillas.
