Iconic Brisbane coffee chain Cafe 63 is in the process of getting plans together for at least eight new stores across Greater Brisbane within the next 12 months.

The cafe brand, which originated in Hamilton more than 15 years ago, is seeking owners for a list of new venues, and has already signed new franchisees on for other locations.

63 Group director Hamish Watson said the surge in growth was happening despite the effects of COVID-19 on the industry — Cafe 63 itself was not immune to those effects, with the pandemic forcing the closure of its first ever store last year.

“COVID has had a huge impact on the hospitality industry and right now we are focusing on our existing customers and stores,” Mr Watson said.

“Several of our current store owners are interested in opening more Cafe 63 stores, which we are working towards.

“We plan to open eight or nine new stores over the next 12 months.”

Included in that number are sites at Burpengary and Park Ridge, where leases have been signed and plans are complete. Six more stores – Capalaba, Forest Lake, Rochedale, Sandstone (Bribie Island), Strathpine and Underwood – are in the early planning stages.

“The Burpengary store will be in Burpengary Station Village and is set to open mid to late March,” Mr Watson said.

“We plan to open the Park Ridge store in April.”

It is understood the brand is also in the process of opening another 12 stores across several states, including in other locations in Queensland including Kawana, Cairns and Buderim.

Mr Watson said each Cafe 63 store employed around 25 to 30 staff — meaning the new Brisbane rollout could generate 150 new jobs.

“The Cafe 63 brand is all about what our customers want and need, combined with our ability to attract a team of great staff.

“Our focus is always staff and customers,” he said.
