Shocking month: 19+ people face Yeppoon court for drink or drug-driving

A Cooberrie Park zoo keeper, a Rosslyn Bay fish filleter, and a concreter were the latest to front court in Yeppoon for drink-driving offences.

No less than 19 people have pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court in the past four weeks to either drink-driving or drug-driving.

The latest three offenders were a Cooberrie Park zoo keeper, a Rosslyn Bay fish filleter, and a concreter (details below).

The numbers are worrying, and so is the number of high-range drink-driving readings being recorded, as was highlighted by Magistrate Cameron Press on September 2 when he dealt with meatworker Roderick Joel Davies, 53, who blew 0.207 at Zilzie.

LATEST OFFENDERS TO PLEAD GUILTY (SEPT 9)

Keegan Jon McDermott, 37, crashed the car he was driving when he offended at McBean Street, Yeppoon, on July 18.

McDermott, a fish filleter at Rosslyn Bay Fish Market, subsequently returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.177.

He was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for eight months.

P-plater Carlo Dominic Redwood, 20, was caught drink-driving on Rockhampton Road on August 15.

The zoo keeper at Cooberrie Park was required to have a zero blood-alcohol concentration but he blew 0.020.

With no previous history, he was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for three months.

Drinks after knock-off time with workmates proved costly for concreter Kemp Marc Ashwood.

The 21-year-old was caught drink-driving at Longreach on July 22.

He blew a reading of 0.053.

With no previous history, Ashwood was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Earlier this month, an assistant manager of a Central Queensland hotel drank about 20 UDL cans before he got behind the wheel while heavily intoxicated.
