A woman who crashed a LandCruiser into a light pole on the Capricorn Coast returned a blood alcohol reading almost five times the legal limit.

Lauren Ellen Williams, 31, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 19 to drink-driving.

The court heard that emergency services crews were called to a single-vehicle traffic crash on Tanby Road about 4.37pm on July 31.

When police arrived at the scene they saw the LandCruiser pulled over on the side of the road, about 100m from a light pole that had been knocked over.

The vehicle had extensive damage to the bullbar and there was also damage to several panels on the passenger side.

While speaking to Williams, the sole occupant of the LandCruiser, police noticed her speech was extremely slurred.

They also saw an open stubbie of beer in the cup holder of the car and there was a full six-pack of stubbies on the passenger seat floor.

Williams told police she was driving home from a friend’s house and had been drinking full-strength stubbies.

She subsequently returned a blood alcohol reading of .230.

The court heard Williams had no criminal history, and no offending of a similar nature on her traffic record.

Williams told Magistrate Ron Muirhead she was “very ashamed” and he said there was only one person to blame for her predicament.

“When you consume that much alcohol, your reading is .230, you shouldn’t go anywhere near a car,” he said.

Mr Muirhead fined Williams $1800 and disqualified her from driving for 15 months.
