SOUTH Brisbane’s booming Fish Lane is set to welcome a new cafe and a restaurant from the team behind highly acclaimed Gold Coast eatery Rick Shores.

Launching in the recently developed Fish Lane Town Square precinct underneath the railway line, Kiki will be the group’s first cafe housed in an impressive red brick rotunda in the centre of the square.
The venue will act primarily as a takeaway spot, specialising in banh mi and grab-and-go items like pastries and coffee, which can be enjoyed at one of the many timber chairs in the communal tree-filled square, or simply taken for breakfast or lunch on the run. While at night, the cafe will morph into a bar with a cool, urban jungle vibe.
But even bigger for the group will be their new Chinese-centric pan-Asian restaurant Southside, which will sit opposite Kiki in the Richards + Spence architecturally designed square.
Split over three levels, with a huge plant-lined outdoor dining space, Southside will specialise in noodles and dim sum with nods to Southeast Asia.
“(Our other restaurant) Little Valley was obviously very strictly Chinese, here the menu is going to be a bit broader,” said co-owner David Flynn.
“You’ll see elements from Little Valley, elements from Rick Shores and some new things.”

The stunning restaurant features ground floor seating for up to 70, opening onto the fern and palm-packed square, a modern and minimalist first floor dining space with banquette seating and a gorgeous arched ceiling; while the third floor boasts a private dining room for up to 20 guests looking straight through to the train line and busway, giving it a New York High Line kind of vibe.
“We hope it matches the precinct and flows on nicely while having its own distinct look and feel,” Mr Flynn said.
Kiki is set to open the end of November, with Southside to follow in early December.
