ONE of Brazil’s biggest acai chains is coming to Brisbane with the opening of Oakberry at West End.
The Global franchise, which began in Sao Paulo and has stores across the world, offers traditional acai using just pulp from the exotic fruit, rather than a blend made with banana or coconut water, and is churned in a soft serve machine.
Brazilian expat Marilia Maurano is co-owner of the new West End store, which will open on Boundary St next to Brisbane Brewing Co.
“(Our product offers) the pure taste of the fruit. It’s not icy or watery. It’s creamy and smooth,” she said.

Diners will also be able to add up to 20 toppings, including the likes of nut butters, granola, fruits and chia pudding.
The 63sq m store will feature a bright Amazon-themed mural by a Brisbane artist, alongside seating for about 15 guests.
It is due to open on October 31, with Ms Maurano planning to set up more venues across the city.
