The venues will ditch the business’s renowned ordering system where diners queue at each food station to watch individual chefs cook their dishes in front of them, and instead introduce QR codes, where customers can order and pay for their meal on their phone without having to leave their table.
For those without a smart phone, there will also be dedicated points of sale areas with socially distanced queuing procedures in place.
“We see it as a service enhancement and it gives us more time to interact with the customer. I think it’s just a more efficient way for customers to order because they’re in control,” said Vapiano managing director Will Cooke.

The changes to the restaurants also include refurbs, with the pale oak synonymous with the Vapiano brand remaining – albeit new, while the tables and lighting will change to become more user-friendly, while the kitchens will be altered in line with the new ordering procedures.
“We’re making it look fresh,” said Mr Cooke.
The pizza and pasta menu will remain untouched, while a new Maleny Dairies gelato range will be added alongside four new wines on tap and new cocktails.
The first venue to see the changes is the Brisbane City store, which opened on Monday with its new look and operating model, while the new ordering systems will be rolled out in Mt Gravatt’s Garden City and the Toowoomba restaurants before Christmas.
A full overhaul of the Surfers Paradise venture is set for early next year.
