It’s Australia’s favourite beer, now Great Northern is getting its own pub.
The Queensland-born brew, which has developed cult status across the country, will have a pub dedicated entirely to it on the Sunshine Coast.
Taking over the former Waterfront Hotel in Diddillibah, near Maroochydore, Northern Grounds will be a $5.1m joint venture between Asahi Beverages, ALH Hotels and Endeavour Group.
The pub will be designed to capture the spirit of a Queensland camping trip, with firepits surrounded by communal seating, a children’s play area and classic Sunshine State iconography including a map marked with punters’ favourite camping, fishing, and hiking destinations.
The food will also celebrate Queensland and play into the theme, with meat and seafood dishes inspired by campfire cooking, featuring locally sourced beef and seafood straight from the boats at Mooloolah River fisheries.
The venue will also serve pub classics and share plates, using fresh, seasonal produce sourced from local suppliers.
And, of course, the full range of Great Northern brews will be on tap, alongside a selection of classic, contemporary and craft beers including fellow Queensland favourites Balter and Green Beacon, and the popular Hard Rated.
Asahi Beverages chief commercial officer Nigel Parsons said they wanted to create a space where people could “connect with the brand in a more tangible way”.
“Great Northern is Australia’s most popular beer brand, and what better place for us to launch this concept than in its home state, Queensland,” he said.
“The pub will embody the spirit of Great Northern – no fuss, warm and welcoming, and the perfect place to catch up with mates or take the family.”
Doors will open on Friday, August 15, with the venue operating daily.
