Sushi Masa
Japanese$$
There's a lovely homely vibe at this beloved and very busy local. Pull up a dark timber chair or take a seat by the sushi counter for a bird's-eye view of the owner/sushi chef getting to work on the day's selection. Beef tataki is a reliable starter, as is the miso eggplant. There's a range of salads and udon, but it's tough to go past simple chicken teriyaki with rice or popular nanban chicken on a fusion-inspired tartare sauce. A specials board highlights gyoza and spider maki rolls, and while desserts feature vanilla and green tea ice-cream, you know it's really the tempura version you want to try, right?
