A fire crackles cosily in winter, while in summer a pleasing breeze flows through this restored 1910 cottage, alive with gleaming glassware and flickering candles. No 2 Oak Street owes its successes - it's one of only four regional two hatters and has been a Guide fixture for nine successive years - to the drive of the Urquhart family. The menu is on the money, starting with a light, fruity tomato consomme with seared kingfish and a scattering of chewy black wild rice, or ever-so-delicate prawn boudin blanc, prettied-up with charred squid, saffron aioli and a shard of tapioca 'crackling'. Grilled, crisp-skinned chicken breast shares the plate with creamy corn puree, brussels sprouts, puffed grains and roasted chicken jus. Rabbit rolled and wrapped in smoky bacon on lentils braised with baby spinach and spring onion is pure comfort food, as is dreamy chocolate bavarois with a crunchy walnut praline and salted caramel ice-cream. Sigh.
