This amiable breakfast and lunch bistro, with its warm-toned walls and sunny courtyard, offers an equally warm and sunny welcome to visitors both regular and casual. Belying the plain brick exterior is an attractive dining room and a pretty, pebble-strewn outdoor area, as well as an inviting list of mix-and-match dishes, ideal for sharing. A commendable focus on local wines means things may well kick off with a glass of Whyworry bubbles, pairing nicely with a sassy and citrussy scallop, caper, lemon and dill risotto. Slow-cooked pork belly with red cabbage, beans and a sesame salad with coconut crunches foreshadows winter and keeps any New England chills well at bay. Sharing the salmon fillet on fennel and potato roesti with asparagus and tarragon butter may prove problematic: who wants to share? And as for the perennial question of coffee, dessert or digestif, order the coffee and cognac mousse and the problem is solved.
