Former US Fed vice chairman urges more RBA independence
Washington | A former vice chairman of the US Federal Reserve says the new Reserve Bank of Australia interest rate-setting board should be chosen by a committee, not by the treasurer of the day, to ensure political fairness.
Randal Quarles, a Donald Trump appointee who resigned from the US central bank in 2021 to save chairman Jerome Powell from an incoming Biden administration purge, said Australia should follow the American system.
