London | More than 1 million French people booked a coronavirus vaccination shot in a single day on Tuesday, after President Emmanuel Macron told the country of bon vivants that they would not be able to enter a bar, restaurant or cafe from next month if they were not jabbed.

The drastic move underscores the growing threat to the European summer from the relentless delta strain of COVID-19, which has prompted governments across the continent to reintroduce curfews and closures and even make jabs compulsory.
