British PM fires starting gun on election

London | Prime Minister Rishi Mr Sunak fired the starting gun on Britain’s next election on Thursday, saying his “assumption” was it would be in the second half of 2024, all but ruling out the earlier vote that opposition parties wish.
With the Conservatives heavily trailing Labour in polls, Mr Sunak moved to end calls for an early election saying he had work to do, including cutting taxes – a major demand from some in his party.
