Young, educated Chinese faced with a shrinking jobs market at home are relocating across Asia to trade cryptocurrencies full-time. It’s not ideal, but they say there are no the alternatives.

Mimi Zhang, a 31-year-old Chinese national, left her hometown of Tianjin last year with her finance degree from Peking University in hand.

But instead of pursuing a traditional career in China’s financial sector, like she had planned, she now spends her days in Tokyo with her eyes glued to cryptocurrency trading screens, riding waves of digital assets in a 24/7 virtual casino to make ends meet.
