Dirt isn’t the only thing robovacs need to handle nowadays – they must have the capacity to cope with complexity, too.

I sometimes find myself wondering about the sort of houses they must live in, the engineers who design robot cleaners and mowers.

Ecovacs engineers must live in pristine, showroom-standard apartments with no stairs or tiny steps to get into bathrooms, and no more than the mathematical minimum number of corners. Their yards must be the same, with not so much as a dandelion disturbing their perfectly manicured lawns.
