Workforce summit exposes IR inflexibility mismatch

The government calls its new industrial relations laws ‘closing loopholes’ when it is really about closing off flexibility.

Companies appearing at The Australian Financial Review Workforce Summit confirmed that corporate Australia is becoming more focused on how to compete through the unprecedented shocks of the past four years – from pandemic lockdowns, to inflation, to working from home to generative AI to populist political scapegoating.

It’s the message also coming out of the half-yearly profit season, where retailers such as JB Hi-Fi have exceeded downbeat expectations.
