Worker consultation overhaul risks ‘sabotaging’ management

The workplace tribunal has flagged significantly expanding bosses’ obligations to consult workers on major change as part of a union push for early intervention into management decisions, ranging from rosters to artificial intelligence.

Employers fear the Fair Work Commission case to determine model consultation terms in enterprise agreements, due for a decision next week, would overrule managerial prerogative and potentially jeopardise commercial deals such as mergers, acquisitions and asset sales.
