When Tara Horner joined Griffith University in 2021 as an alumni engagement manager, her supervisor gave her the rundown on how the team communicated with each other, including one uncommon instruction: we don’t send internal emails after midday on Friday.

Her first reaction was to laugh. But she quickly realised the directive was serious. The idea is that everybody should be able to get out of work on time on Friday and enjoy their weekend.
