MUA wharf strike threatens to spoil Christmas

A shipping line delivering Christmas goods to retailers in Western Australia and exporting farmers’ fruit and vegetables will be barred from mooring and unmooring at Fremantle Port from next week as part of fresh industrial action.

The Maritime Union of Australia notified the state government-owned Fremantle Port Authority on Monday that its workers will launch indefinite work bans on mooring and unmooring ships operated by Japanese-owned Ocean Network Express (ONE) from November 2.
