Why are we paying all those private school fees if Australia is suddenly a meritocracy?

As our office counted down to moving day, the photos began to appear on Twitter. There was Sydney Morning Herald reporter Kate McClymont with her 16 boxes of dirt on Sydney’s underworld, including an invitation to Eddie Obeid’s surprise 50th and a set of motivational tapes from HIH urger Brad Cooper – perfect for those aspiring to imprisonment.

Suddenly, moving office had become a competition and I had nothing to contribute, my “Mark Latham for PM” T-shirt having been quietly destroyed.
