Softly, softly Labor could wind back the industrial relations clock

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese’s rhetoric could justify all manner of reforms - none of which will sit well with employers

A re-elected Coalition government is unlikely to change the industrial relations landscape. In their past three terms they have shown little appetite for reform, with last year’s gutted Omnibus Bill a case in point. But a Labor win at the polls. That could be a completely different story.

Like the government, Labor’s approach to industrial relations has been softly, softly. Details about what it will do in government have been little better than motherhood statements around the concepts of job security and the need to lift working wages, and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese provided no more clarity in his budget reply on Thursday.
