Porter wants penalty rate replaced with single-loaded payment
Industrial Relations Minister Christian Porter has called for the workplace tribunal to implement a single-loaded wage rate in place of penalty rates for the industries hit hardest by the coronavirus by March next year.
He wrote to Fair Work Commission president Iain Ross on Wednesday to say the "extraordinary" circumstances caused by COVID-19 meant it was in the country's best interests to let retail and hospitality sectors pay their award staff a loaded rate and substantially reduce award classifications.
